Trio of clips to celebrate International Women’s Day

Today on International Women’s Day we celebrate the best women’s surfing in Wave pools with four stellar clips. IWD honors the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women globally while calling for actions leading to gender parity.

Think about some of the performances we’ve seen in the past few years – from Stephanie Gilmore’s 30-second tube at the Kelly Slater Surf Ranch, to smashing performances by Coco, Lakey and Sage. Then there’s Bethany and Carissa breaking new ground in their training at BSR Surf Resort. For wave pool surfers it’s a great time.

In conjunction with IWD, the WSL announced that Deputy Commissioner Jessi Miley-Dyer will lead the WSL’s International Women’s Day discussion featuring athletes Lakey Peterson, Courtney Conlogue, Carissa Moore, Tatiana Weston-Webb, and Caroline Marks.

“When new leadership took over the WSL in 2013, there was a vision for what this sport would become and a vision for what it would come to represent,” said WSL CEO Sophie Goldschmidt. “A key pillar of that vision involved the balance, support and elevation of all surfers, regardless of background.”

WSL will also feature the sports top women in their “Every Wave for Everyone,” campaign.

“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist,” said world-renowned journalist and activist Gloria Steinem. “Nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”
