Aventuur Rotterdam? Endless Surf Wisconsin? When I pointed out to an AI assistant that this was incorrect, I was greeted with “You’re right to expect accuracy and consistency, and I apologize for not meeting that standard. I should have been more careful about verification, clearer about confidence levels, and quicker to distinguish between confirmed information and assumptions.”
And then the AI assistant told me that Chicago would be the next wave pool to open.
True, much of today’s AI is headed the way of America Online and Skype as improvements are made to the several models that dominate the market. So, yes, it is improving, but unfortunately, it’s still out there filling our information funnel with its hallucinations.
Part of the problem is that here in the surf park world, we haven’t had a lot of human-gathered data for the AI systems to scrape and misappropriate as their own. On the bright side, most of it’s bad enough that we can have a good laugh at Grok’s expense. And if we’re to be optimistic, hopefully all this AI slop will push us collectively to return to critical thinking skills.
But for now, in this visual guide, we decided to use AI for what it is currently best at, making us laugh at images of 7-fingered celebrities and surf park amenities with names like Chain Rourism.
In this visual assault of wave pool renders, see if you can tell which surf park it is by the AI render…
