Chris Monroe has a knack for finding the fun wave pools to surf. And if the surf tank is a bit staid, predictable or grey, he injects stoke via an arsenal of props.
Beef’s TV, Monroe’s one-man YouTube machine, now boasts nearly 250K subscribers. His lens follows the antics of Catch Surf’s Blair Conklin, Kalani Robb, and friends across hotspots like The Wedge, Mysto Laguna, Lower Trestles—and most recently, Revel Surf.
A Surf Trip
What brought you to Arizona? The Catch Surf crew and I had been itching to go out there since it opened and get some pool tubes in the land of where Rick Kane is from! Haha
Was it a bodysurfing wave pool trip? I wish haha. I actually do want to go back and just bodysurf it! Just womp the whole time! I did squeak in a few bodysurf waves in between shooting but no it was pretty much a surf trip. Joel (A.K.A. Ultrakook ) Manalastas also shredded some tubes with the Womper, plus I bodysurfed the standing wave as a novelty.

Wave Pool Settings
You’ve surfed a few different technologies now. Was this a fun wave pool to surf? This technology is rad and unique from the rest. Its super fun and forms up very similar to an ocean wave. Unfortunately we didn’t get to do the wedge wave setting and mostly did the Vland tube which was a super fun fast barreling peak. I also noticed the Revel technology is quite quiet when it pushes out waves and I tried to show the raw noise of it in the YT vid. One cool thing the crew figured out is they started doing push starts in the wave making chambers and they would get sort of a launch take off in the waves which was rad ! I think the chamber launch takeoffs might have been an NDB!
Surprises & Setups
What surprised you about the setup at Revel Surf? The actual wave pool was definitely the main attraction but there’s also a standing wave, high dives, skate park, sand beach area and bar to keep the good times rolling!
Anything else you’d like to say about the trip? It was good times at Revel Surf and the service in the park and staff was very friendly and helpful! Plus all the food joints around the park were very delicious!
