Atlantic Park Surf in Virginia Beach will reopen next week following a scheduled maintenance closure and has announced updates to its surf session offerings and upcoming community events.
The surf lagoon will introduce additional wave session categories, including specialty turns and barrel sessions, and new pro sessions featuring technical wave settings.
The lagoon is capable of generating more than 20 wave types ranging from one to seven feet. The updated surf menu includes three primary session categories: Cruisers for beginner to progressive surfers, Turns for intermediate through pro levels, and Barrels for advanced through pro surfers. The updated wave profiles were developed based on customer feedback and the performance of limited-release sessions offered during winter.
“Our guests asked, and we listened. Our new surf menu blends expertly customized settings to cater to all levels–no matter where you are on your surfing journey,” said Nate Stevens, Atlantic Park Surf’s General Manager. “The lagoon’s Beginner and Novice sessions remain unchanged, but we’ve optimized the wave settings in our Progressive and Intermediate sessions for surfers looking to advance their skills. Additionally, our Advanced, Expert and Pro sessions now all feature a choice of turns or barrels.”

Atlantic Park Surf opened in August last year and claims to have hosted surfers from all 50 U.S. states and more than 30 countries including Australia, China, France, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Spain and the United Arab Emirates.
The venue has also released a schedule of community events in March. Surf Cinema is scheduled for March 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. A book signing for Surf Essentials: Virginia Is for Surfers with Jason Borte will take place March 28 from 4 to 5 p.m. Surf Wellness Day with Wareing’s Gym is scheduled for March 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Atlantic Park Surf is part of the $350 million Atlantic Park mixed-use development in Virginia Beach. The project includes The Dome by Rutter Mills, Atlantic Park Living residences, more than 120,000 square feet of retail and dining space, and The Sitio, a 20-room boutique hotel scheduled to open March 16.
A Surf and Stay package tied to the hotel’s opening will be available from March 17 through April 30. The package includes a nightly rate of $325 excluding taxes and fees, one surf session at Atlantic Park Surf, and two daily beach passes.
