Automated comps for Wave Pools and beyond hit another level this week as Flowstate introduced a platform designed to support a broad range of competitive formats. The system is intended for use by professional organizers, national governing bodies, local surf clubs, and informal online groups.
Organizers can conduct competitions in various settings, including artificial wave pools, beaches, mountain skateparks, and other outdoor venues. Judges evaluate events either live—on-site or remotely—or through asynchronous formats where participants submit video clips for review.

Product Range
The platform includes several specialized offerings: Live Comps, Beach Comps, Clip Comps, Boardrider Club Comps, and Snow Comps. Each format uses the common Flowstate infrastructure and tailors its features to specific use cases.
Technology and Development
Flowstate Comps is currently in use at multiple surf parks. The company reports that it is using computer vision to assist human judges. This hybrid system looks to develop fully automated scoring capabilities.
“As we train our AI to better understand what makes a winning ride, we’re paving the way toward fully automated scoring – driven by both human insight and machine intelligence,” said Luke Wallace, CEO of Flowstate. “We’re combining our computer vision tech with scoring from real judges to power the future of competition.”

Live Event Capabilities
The Live Comps product supports real-time judging, automatic wave capture, configurable scoring, and multi-round formats. A playback-enabled judge console streamlines the evaluation process.
Clip Submission Format
Clip Comps allow surfers to submit video footage after sessions for judging. The format aims to simplify participation and minimizes setup requirements. Optional divisions and automated scoring aim to make the process accessible.
Support for Community Clubs
Flowstate Comps also offers a dedicated solution for boardriders clubs. The platform combines video automation, competition tools, membership management, and coaching features in a single system.

Specialized Event Tools
Beach Comps make use of the Flowcast Mobile Broadcast Unit, which allows organizers to automate video capture and manage events directly from the beach. The system produces high-quality media content on-site by design.
Snow Comps utilize AI to capture and edit competition footage. Features include instant highlights, athlete performance data, coaching support, and automated marketing tools. The offering aims to enhance content delivery and community engagement.
