Bahrain Surf Park Fills Its Surf Lagoon

The lagoon at Bahrain Surf Park – Club Hawaii Experience has been filled, clearing the way for testing and commissioning of the Wavegarden system. The filling of the lagoon marks a new stage in the construction of the surf park at Bilaj Al Jazayer on Bahrain’s southwest coast. The next phase will include testing the equipment used to generate waves in the lagoon.

“We’re delighted to share that our lagoon is now officially filled, marking one of the biggest milestones in our journey so far,” Bahrain Surf Park said. “For the first time, the heart of the park is full, bringing us another step closer to creating a destination where people can surf, relax, connect, and make unforgettable memories together.”

The lagoon will use Wavegarden technology and offer its wave menu for surfers of varying ages and abilities.

“With the lagoon now filled, we move into the next phase of testing and commissioning,” Bahrain Surf Park said. “Soon, it will be generating waves powered by Wavegarden technology, with settings designed for surfers of all ages and abilities.”

The crew at Bahrain Surf Park released this image of the surf basin, freshly filled with water and ready for commissioning.

Construction on Bahrain Surf Park – Club Hawaii Experience began in 2025. Edamah, the real estate arm of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, and GFH Financial Group are developing the project within the Bilaj Al Jazayer development.

The surf park covers more than 52,000 square meters. Its Wavegarden Cove system was manufactured in Spain and is designed to produce up to 900 waves per hour and accommodate up to 90 surfers.

Plans for the development also include the Club Hawaii Experience Academy, food and beverage outlets, a viewing terrace, retail store, shaded cabanas and areas for events and private group bookings. The project said it is moving closer to opening, although the lagoon update did not provide an opening date.

The surf park development also shared a drawing of Bahrain Surf Park created by young artist Amina Tariq Al-Alawi. She presented the drawing as a gift to Victoria Williams, general manager of Bahrain Surf Park – Club Hawaii Experience, a particularly feel-good moment in a politically sensitive time.

Bahrain’s political environment is unusually charged due to the US conflict with Iran and subsequent Iranian attacks causing infrastructure damage and aviation disruptions. The country hosts the headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet.

Geographically, Bahrain is genuinely unusual: it’s an archipelago in the Persian Gulf, with a hot desert climate and a history fundamentally shaped by the sea.

Bahrain has a strong maritime culture. Fishing, sailing and natural pearl diving played major roles in the islands’ economy and identity before oil became an economic driver. Bahrain’s pearling heritage is recognized by UNESCO through the Pearling Path in Muharraq.

For visitors, the country combines a modern capital in Manama with older neighborhoods, souqs, mosques, coastal areas and desert landscapes. Because the country is geographically compact, many of these environments are relatively close together, simplifying tourist visits.
