Rio’s New Wave Pool Will Be Crystal Clear Like Munich, But On a Larger Scale

One of two new Endless Surf wave pools have broken ground as Brasil Surfe Clube began construction on their Região dos Lagos location approximately two and a half hours east of Rio de Janeiro.

In a LinkedIn post, Brasil Surfe Clube highlighted the progress with a short video, adding to the artist rendering of the facility.

Myrtha Pools’s Matteo Bazzaro showed the wave basin taking shape and posed with the work crew.

“The Endless Surf ES48 installation is progressing at a rapid pace,” said Myrtha in a LinkedIn post. “We’re thrilled to see that we are aligned with the targeted July 2026 opening.”

The Myrtha system uses stainless steel panels laminated with PVC to form a watertight, corrosion-resistant surface. Panels are bolted together on-site, allowing for fast installation and a smooth, durable lining that holds up to repeated wave impact in surf pools. It’s more expensive than a standard concrete bottom pool, but many developments like the system for the light it adds to pool water and for the added durability.

Myrtha’s first wave pool liner system was installed at the o2SURFTOWN location in Munich, Germany. The company also announced that they have renewed a partnership with World Aquatics where Myrtha Pools will continue to provide its stainless steel pool technology through 2029.

Late last year Endless Surf and Brasil Surfe Clube (BSC) announced plans for two surf destinations: BSC Costa Verde and BSC at Região dos Lagos. The surf parks will be unique in that they feature the largest wave tanks made by Endless – the ES48 caisson model. By comparison, Munich and Qiddiya are 34 and 32 caissons, respectively.

A wave pool liner is the protective membrane installed on the interior surface of the surf pool basin. Its main job is to help contain water, prevent leaks, and provide a smooth, non-slip surface. In the surf park industry navigating liners is tricky, and having a clear, aqua pool is a major sell.

Some wave technology companies offer their own liner system strictly for their brand of wave pools, while others form partnerships with third-party companies who specialize in the product.
