Hamburg’s Floating Wave Pool Advances With Construction Contract

Floating Wave Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH has awarded MEYER Floating Solutions the contract to build the company’s first floating surf platform in central Hamburg. MEYER is a company specializing in modular floating infrastructure for residential and commercial applications. This decision follows the completion of a financing round that Floating Wave states will allow the project to proceed.

The company reports that the Hamburg-based wave pool initiative, which aims to bring artificial surf waves to urban settings, is in the final permitting phase while construction planning continues. The designated location in Fischereihafen was selected based on what Floating Wave calls favorable conditions, and the permitting process is being conducted in coordination with Hamburg authorities.

Project Overview and Goals

According to Floating Wave, the development will repurpose underutilized harbor space into a leisure destination featuring artificial wave technology, dining, and fitness facilities. The company states that MEYER Floating Solutions will construct the platform using its expertise in shipbuilding and offshore construction. The platform will be built in a shipyard setting, which the company claims will ensure high-quality standards while reducing environmental impact and on-site disruption. The wave facility is projected to open in 2026.

Like many projects on the table and visible on our wave pool map, the Floating Wave Hamburg is tapping densely populated urban areas to ensure a wide customer base.

Floating Wave characterizes the construction contract as a significant milestone. The company expects the project will attract further investment and additional strategic partnerships. Floating Wave reports growing interest in its floating surf platform concept. It states that its modular design allows for flexible adaptation to urban harbor areas and coastal tourism destinations worldwide.

Initial discussions at international trade conferences, according to Floating Wave, have indicated strong interest in the technology.

“Our goal is to efficiently meet the global demand for urban surf spots together with MEYER Floating Solutions,” added Felix Segebrecht.

Local Impact and Future Developments

The Fischereihafen development is part of broader efforts in Hamburg to modernize waterfront areas for mixed-use purposes. Floating Wave has stated that it intends for the project to contribute to the local economy while expanding recreational opportunities in the region. Authorities continue to review the permitting requirements as the company works toward its projected opening date.
