How much does it cost to own two weeks a year at a Cove?

Surfland Brasil, an innovative neo-timeshare project in Garopaba, announced they will feature a Wavegarden Cove wave pool as their centerpiece.

Sandwiched between Florianopolis and Imbituba, the development will feature a skatepark designed by Pedro Barros, swimming pools, tennis courts, beach tennis, surf museum, restaurants, jogging track, gym, yoga, meditation space and spa.

The facility comes on the heels of the Fazenda da Grama Wavegarden Cove announcement earlier this year. The two facilities will be similar in that they are focused around active lifestyle living with minimal environmental impact.

But before you tag this wave pool project as another “playground for the rich” consider that the developers are using a cost-sharing structure, much like a timeshare. Those signing on the dotted line are guaranteed two weeks a year for as long as they own their property share.

Buy-ins for the apartments start at $22,000US. The company requires three $1,090 payments followed by 57 installment payments at $325. Or, you can probaly buy in all at once. They also offer buy-ins for the larger $29,500 units (sleeps 5). According to artist renderings, there will be a little over 100 units on offer. “We are innovative in the format and commercialization of the product, which is based on a fractional ownership system, or shared economy, a trend that has come to stay,” said Surfland Brasil’s Commercial Director Luciano Faraco. “Not dissimilar to Air BnB, Uber and Bike Share, estate owners at Surfland Brazil share their assets and divide their costs.”

While in the past leisure-seekers paid steep fees for golf club memberships, surfing looks to be a legitimate centerpiece for real estate developments.

“The Wavegarden Cove is the perfect feature for property developments of this nature,” said Wavegarden’s Founder and CEO Josema Odriozola. “People love to surf and, at places like Surfland Brasil, they can stay in their own apartment and enjoy guaranteed waves with their family and friends in a natural and safe environment”.

Gabriel Medina has signed on as the project’s ambassador. The two-time world champ first surfed Wavegarden’s technology as a grom back in 2011. (Check the clip below).

“It is very cool that Surfland Brasil is actually happening and soon we will have a Wavegarden Cove here for us Brazilians,” said Medina. “It offers perfect waves that allow you to perform all sorts of maneuvers.”

Neither Wavegarden or Surland Brasil gave an opening date. For more info check the Surland Brasil website.
