Houston’s upcoming surf park, HTX Surf, announced it will be using a 52-module Wavegarden Cove as its centerpiece. Today’s announcement marks the third time that a technology partner has been announced for this project.
The HTX Surf Development
The wave pool will anchor the upcoming Generation Park development, and provide 20 wave types to suit all skill levels. The project will also include a membership club, leisure amenities, and the Surfside Restaurant & Bar, designed to provide food, cocktails, and lagoon views for the Houston community.
Generation Park, will be about 25 minutes from downtown Houston and near a 25-acre fishing lake. The surf park project aims to draw more than 200,000 visitors annually and boost activity across Generation Park’s 4,000 acres.
Houston’s core surf community often travels to the Gulf Coast or drives hours to Waco Surf for sessions. HTX Surf aims to provide a closer, more consistent alternative.
“Anchored by perfect waves which peel the length of two football fields, HTX Surf will also provide international food and drink options, pump track, training and wellness facilities, music and event lawns, a leisure pool and beach club, and a membership club,” the company said in a statement. “Surf HTX will create a relaxed, ocean-front environment that is guaranteed to feature highly on the must-visit lists of surfers and beach enthusiasts.”

Changing Plans
In October of 2022, developers Beach Street first aired details about the HTX Surf project. At the time, they said that it would be using a Wavegarden Cove system. In November 2023 Beach Street announced they would be switching to an Endless Surf wave pool. This week’s announcement marks the company’s most recent decision to use a Cove system.
There are currently 21 wave technology companies out there. Some have projects in the ground while others await funding. In addition to Endless Surf and Wavegarden, currently operating prototypes or public-facing systems include SwellMfg, Surf Loch, AllWaves, Surf Lakes and PerfectSwell.
The initial HTX Surf construction timeline was to make waves by 2024. Later that was pushed back to Q2 2025 with doors opening in Q2/Q3 2025. Current opening estimate is for the end of 2027.
Beach Street plans to open and operate two additional surf parks: Atlantic Park in Virginia Beach this summer and DSRT Surf in Coachella Valley in early 2026. HTX Surf will be the third Beach Street destination.
