I’m sitting down with Andy Hadden for a surf park business update on Lost Shore and his latest appearance on the WavePoolMag podcast. Andy is part of the “Four Timers Club” – guests who’ve appeared on our podcast, uh, four times. And it’s kind of like one of those sci-fi movies where you see different versions of the same person in a multiverse: In our case, we’ve seen many different versions of Andy.
There was the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed “I’m gonna build a surf park” Andy of 2019.
Then came the “Are we there yet?” Andy of 2023, a bit beat up by all the planning applications and processes. Our favorite so far was the giddy “Oh my god, we’re open!” Andy of 2024.
Now, on this fourth appearance and several months into Lost Shore being open, I was expecting cruise control Andy, sitting back and enjoying the fruits of his labor.
Andy number four speaks openly and to the point, with a slight patina of fatigue. It’s been a long journey. And it’s not over. This conversation touches on what happens when a years-long dream becomes a reality and you have to get up every morning and actually make the damn thing work.
