One of the quickest ways to juice your SEO during a news cycle is to name a celeb. Which is why anytime Cindy Crawford, Former Prince Harry, Ivanka, or most recently Paris Hilton, session at the moniker of surfing’s best-known name, the newswires light up. Is it interesting to watch a famous face struggle to stand up on a soft-top in Lemoore? Not particularly. But Google Search insists that content like this feeds the beast that is our addiction to scrolling.
So when a presser came across our desk on Metallica surfing at Lost Shore, we had to decide on its newsworthiness, which came down to a pretty quick “yes.” Why? Because one, it’s Metallica and two, it’s not the Lemoore wave pool, which seems to have a treadmill of stars making the pilgrimage north from Los Angeles. Plus there’s a strong surfing lineage to the Metallica 2.0 lineup.
According to the presser from Lost Shore, Metallica’s bass player Robert Trujillo and drummer Mario Duplantier from Metallica’s support act Gojira visited Lost Shore Surf Resort, enjoyed a surf session, and relaxed at the resort recently before playing to a packed stadium at Hampden Park in nearby Glasgow.
Lost Shore’s social media director Mitch spoke to Robert Trujillo between waves.
“Surfing and music really go hand in hand, when you think about surfing, it’s very rhythmic when you’re on the wave,” said Trujillo. “Back in the old days, I used to hit my board and come up with beats while waiting for waves. It’s a magnet for creativity… I believe that helped me with Kirk in Metallica, we came together through surf… I believe surfing is what brought me to Metallica.”
