Peak Surf Park Moves Closer to Reality in Florida

Florida has had a tough go in the wave pool world. But 2026 might be the year that the Sunshine State turns it all around. The Point Surf Park will open this year and hot on their heels is a smattering of developments like the Jacksonville Surf Park and Peak Surf Park, the latter of which got a push from the planning commission this week.

According to local media, the Pasco County Planning Commission has recommended approval of the approximately 6,000-acre Two Rivers development. The move helps clear the way for a proposal that includes nearly 4,000 additional single-family homes, about 1,900 apartments, hotels, office space, retail development and the 35-acre Surf Lakes powered surf park. The proposal will now move to the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners for final consideration.

Peak Surf Park has been on the Florida radar since we first reported on the project four years ago when advertising executive Tony Miller had gathered a small group of private investors to make the dream happen.

“We’re thrilled to share that after years of planning, evaluating, and negotiating, we are now under contract on a truly fantastic location – 35 acres dedicated to surfing, adventure, and community,” said Tony Miller at the time the project was launched.

Surf Lakes founder Aaron Trevis stated that the location would be ideal.

“Compare [Tampa Bay] to the Gold Coast — it’s double the market,” said Trevis. “We’re excited about the one we’re going to build here. Tampa is such a great destination; it just needs waves.”

Wave pool tech company Surf Lakes said they offer two sizes for different development targets and budgets. Surf Lakes Standard has a smaller footprint and is designed for the beginner to intermediate markets. Surf Lakes XL is meant to be a premium surf destination or resort appealing to all skill levels. Each system produces 2000 waves per hour. Currently, the prototype in Yeppoon Queensland is becoming a public-facing surf park.

WavePoolMag did a podcast with Surf Lakes’ new CEO Troy Warfield which you can listen to here.
