Surfers Cove, a new surf park under development in Óbidos near Peniche, will open in late 2026 as Portugal’s first Wavegarden lagoon and will feature integrated Check My Surf | Surf Eye technology, according to a press release.
The project is being developed on Portugal’s west coast, a region known for its established surf industry and proximity to Peniche, one of Europe’s leading surf destinations. The facility, like today’s current crop of surf parks, is being designed to serve surfers ranging from beginners to professional athletes.
As part of the launch, Surfers Cove will install a two-camera Check My Surf | Surf Eye system developed specifically for Wavegarden lagoons. Surf Eye said the platform will provide automated video capture, ride tracking, session analytics and progression tools for surfers using the facility.
According to the companies, every wave surfed at the lagoon will be automatically recorded, edited and delivered to users through the platform. Surfers will receive video clips, photographs and session statistics, including wave count and ride time.

The installation follows a partnership announced this year where by Wavegarden will integrate Surf Eye software with the previous CheckMySurf system. The companies said the system is designed to support additional features, including progression tracking, leaderboards and rankings. Future developments may include coaching tools, real-time wave quality analysis and AI-based safety monitoring.

Wavegarden CEO Josema Odriozola said the project will demonstrate the integration between the company’s wave-generation technology and Surf Eye’s AI platform from the park’s opening.

Surfers Cove is expected to become one of the first large-scale artificial wave facilities in Portugal and the country’s first Wavegarden-powered surf park when it opens in 2026.
