Endless Surf Launches World’s First Saltwater Pneumatic Wave Pool as Red Sea, Saudi Arabia Project Goes Online

Today, Endless Surf wave pool technology announced the debut of its ES36 surf lagoon at ADRENA, the new adventure sports and entertainment district within The Red Sea. Of note: This is the first pneumatic system to use seawater, as historically they operate in freshwater due to corrosion and maintenance constraints. The other bonus that comes with this announcement is a sizzling banger of a clip showing world champ Yago Dora, Victor Bernardo, Eithan Osborne and others enjoying the buoyancy of the new Endless Surf wave tank. This is the first of five Endless Surf projects set to launch in 2026. Here’s what we know…

Saltwater offers more buoyancy than freshwater. Surfers in the wave pool reported a more “ocean-like” sensation during their sessions.

The Location: Red Sea, Saudi Arabia

Located on the shores of western Saudi Arabia, the ADRENA development and the surf park are near Red Sea International Airport and Shura Island. Alongside this signature surf attraction, ADRENA blends a dynamic mix of land- and water-based experiences set against a coastal backdrop.

The Red Sea is a tourism megaproject on the coast developed by Red Sea Global, which is owned by the Public Investment Fund, as part of the Saudi Vision 2030 program. Plans call for 50 hotels with about 8,000 rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites.

Wave Technology Milestones

The Endless Surf lagoon also introduced a new saltwater wave pool experience, the first of its kind for a pneumatic system.

“In a destination defined by regenerative luxury, Endless Surf brings something truly special: real saltwater waves with fully customizable profiles, right here at The Red Sea,” says Paul Chutter, President of Endless Surf. “From beginners to seasoned surfers, our ES36 creates an experience you can only expect in premier surf destinations — and now Saudi Arabia.”

About the New Saltwater Wave Pool In Saudi Arabia

Endless Surf said its ES36 lagoon technology is designed to replicate ocean wave energy in a land-based environment around the world and at The Red Sea project. The pneumatic wave system, operated through Swell Studio software, enables adjustment of wave height, shape, angle, and interval, allowing operators to generate different wave profiles, including long peeling waves and steeper sections suited for advanced maneuvers.

The ES36 lagoon can be configured to accommodate beginners, intermediate surfers, and advanced riders through precision wave tuning, and can be programmed for daily operations with separate surfing zones or for special events with varied wave settings.

The company added that the ADRENA lagoon uses seawater sourced directly from the Red Sea through a closed-loop system. The setup draws in, filters, and circulates the water through the lagoon before returning it to the sea in filtered condition. Endless Surf said its technology does not require underwater machinery, which enables buoyancy, overall wave authenticity, and the sensation of a saltwater surf experience.

Action Sports in The Red Sea

ADRENA describes itself as a purpose-built adventure and entertainment district featuring more than 20 activities. The development includes surfing, a wakeboarding lake, a skate and BMX park, a FlowSurf stationary wave, snorkel trails, cliff jumping, 10-meter slip ‘n’ fly slides, a multilevel Aquaplay structure, zip lines, rock climbing challenges, obstacle courses, and designated areas for beach sports and relaxation.

WhiteWater, the parent company of Endless Surf, delivered several attractions as part of an integrated package, including the Endless Surf lagoon, the FlowSurf stationary wave, the slip ‘n’ fly slides, and the Aquaplay structure. The Endless Surf lagoon functions as a central feature within the district and serves as a primary attraction within the broader active lifestyle development.

“Endless Surf was a natural addition to ADRENA’s mix of high-energy experiences,” added Jill Stienke, General Manager at ADRENA. “With authentic saltwater waves and sessions suited for any skill level, the lagoon delivers an ocean-like experience that perfectly complements our park’s ethos.”

A Defining Project for Endless Surf

The debut of Endless Surf at The Red Sea marks a significant milestone in a year that will see multiple new projects come online worldwide. The company’s upcoming openings in Rio de Janeiro, Florida, Cabo, and Riyadh reflect the growing global demand for premium surf experiences across a variety of development types.

“We’re seeing a global evolution in how surfing integrates into modern destinations,” said Baptiste Caulonque, Chief Commercial Officer at Endless Surf. “From iconic coastal environments to entirely new markets, Endless Surf is enabling authentic surf experiences with versatility to match the needs of nearly any project.”

ADRENA officially opens to the public on March 1.

HOW IT WORKS: PNEUMATIC CHAMBERS AND WAVE CONTROL

Endless Surf is one of the leading pneumatic wave systems currently on the market. It creates surf by pushing air through caissons, also called pneumatic chambers, in sequence. This controlled release of air produces a variety of wave shapes and sizes.

The number of chambers installed at the deep end of its heart-shaped lagoon determines the system’s scale. For example, the Endless Surf 34 model uses 34 caissons, while the larger ES48 includes 48 chambers and spans 282 meters by 84.5 meters.

WAVE SPECS AND RIDE POTENTIAL

Wave heights generally range from 3 to 6 feet. However, the system can generate waves up to 7 feet tall, offering both left- and right-hand breaks. Ride length varies by pool size. Smaller setups can yield 30- to 60-meter rides, while maximum configurations stretch up to 200 meters.

Using its single-peak setting, the system supports rides as long as 32 seconds. In terms of wave volume, the setup can produce between 400 and 700 waves per hour.

DYNAMIC WAVE CONTROL FOR EFFICIENCY

Endless Surf highlights its ability to go beyond a basic on/off wave-generation model. The system can adjust output dynamically, which helps conserve energy when fewer surfers are in the water. Operators can also modify wave settings in real time to match individual skill levels, preferences, and changing weather conditions.

SURF CONCIERGE AND SYSTEM INTEGRATION

The company has also introduced its Surf Concierge platform. This system manages session bookings, memberships, and in-park amenities. It integrates with Endless Surf’s Wave Doctor interface, which oversees machine diagnostics, and Swell Studio software, which handles wave customization.
