Way back in 2018 we celebrated a new concept in surf contests: The wave pool air comp. In that year the innovative crew at Stab led the world’s best aerialists into the Play-Doh blue waters of the old BSR facility. The event was more party than heated surf contest and, as such, was well received by internet pundits globally.
This year, Stab High Sydney 2025 will run October 10–11 at URBNSURF. According to organizers, Stab High is “a surf contest focused on flight,” and competitors will be judged on individual airs rather than linked maneuvers. The event will use the newly configured air section at URBNSURF’s wave pool.
The Sydney Wave Pool comp includes four divisions: Pro Men’s, Pro Women’s, Ladybirds (15-and-under girls), and Bottle Rockets (15-and-under boys). The Monster Air award will go to the most impactful air landed across all divisions.
Past Winners and Competitive Lineup
Previous winners include Noa Deane, Chippa Wilson, Sierra Kerr, Ian Crane, Caity Simmers, Erin Brooks, Matt Meola, Eithan Osborne, Kiara Gold, Lucas Cassity, Loci Cullen, and Hughie Vaughan.
Each surfer will receive multiple opportunities to complete airs, with judges reviewing grabs, rotations, and height.
