In our short, hurried history, wave pools and surf parks have had to borrow from ocean surfing for everything from hard goods to branding. This week, in some cosmic gale force of change (or gestalt if you wear all black clothing), surf competition management took a huge AI leap forward. The very much salted United States Boardriders (USBR) has appointed born-in-the-Melbourne-wave-pool company Flowstate as its exclusive media production and competition management partner.
The move of a pool AI video capture technology onto the sands of beach competitions formalizes a collaboration aimed at streamlining and modernizing club surfing competitions across the country.
Under the agreement, Flowstate will oversee all aspects of event logistics and judging via its centralized platform. The system handles club and athlete registration, heat scheduling, scoring, leaderboards, and rankings, while integrating real-time media production.
“This alliance delivers a massive step forward in how our competitions are run, judged, experienced, and remembered,” said Todd Ross, Chief Executive Officer of United States Boardriders. “Automated content and seamless competition management unlock a new future for our clubs, coaches, and athletes nationwide.”

Flowstate’s proprietary AI-driven video tools will generate automated highlight reels for every heat and division, with personalized content made available shortly after each event. The platform also aims to expand community engagement by distributing instant clips and athlete features to participants, fans, and families.
“Flowstate exists to elevate athletes and empower communities,” said Flowstate CEO Luke Wallace. “Working with United States Boardriders lets us bring our AI technology to the heart of America’s club surfing culture. Together, we’re setting a new standard for how surf competitions operate, scale, and create value for everyone involved.”
The partnership is positioned to support membership growth and visibility within the national club surfing community by increasing access to media assets and event storytelling.
