The London Borough of Enfield has approved plans for an inland surfing facility in Edmonton. The Surf London project now moves to the Greater London Authority (GLA) for review. Once final steps are cleared, expected by the end of 2025, construction could begin in 2026.
The proposed site is at the Lee Valley Leisure Complex in North London. This project, valued at over £50 million, will transform approximately 100 acres within Lee Valley Regional Park. The project will leverage Endless Surf’s wave pool technology, specifically designed to adapt to challenging site conditions.
Surf Lake Planned for Edmonton Site
Surf London is backed by Crest Experiences, formerly known as The Wave Group Limited. The company previously developed and operated The Wave Bristol through Surf Bristol Limited until June 2025.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the London Borough of Enfield for their support,” said Hazel Geary, CEO of Crest Experiences. “We recognise that this is not final approval, and we’ll continue to work closely with the authorities to complete the application. This is a big milestone for Surf London, and we’re really excited to continue to progress the detailed planning so we are in a position to start construction next year.”
Crest Experiences added that it aims to expand access to outdoor recreation, which it describes as limited or inconsistent in many locations. The site will include a 200-meter-wide surf lake and other sports and wellness facilities. A restaurant, café, event space, and short-stay accommodation are also planned.
The project will redevelop an area currently used as a golf course and campsite and will offer public parkland, free activities, and discounts on surf sessions and other sports.
The company expects Surf London to create 50 full-time and 150 part-time jobs.
