Atlantic Park Surf will host a series of surfing competitions, industry events and community gatherings in Virginia Beach from Aug. 23 through Sept. 8, including the East Coast Surfing Championships, Surf Park Summit, Super Girl Festival and several surf-focused events.
The venue, home to North America’s first Wavegarden Cove surf lagoon, opened in August 2024. Atlantic Park Surf recently hosted Stab High Virginia Beach, which brought together 56 professional surfers and nearly 3,500 spectators over two days. The surf park has also established partnerships with brands including Dryrobe, Kona Big Wave, Rip Curl, SunBum, Toyota, the U.S. Navy, Xtratuf and YETI.
“Atlantic Park Surf has demonstrated what’s possible for the future of surfing,” said Nate Stevens, general manager of Atlantic Park Surf. “In nearly one year in operation, our team has set an industry standard. Now, over three weeks of large-scale surf events, we’re ready to showcase what Virginia Beach has to offer. We are excited to serve as the epicenter of what will certainly be a defining moment in Virginia Beach surf culture.”
The event schedule begins with the 64th Annual East Coast Surfing Championships from Aug. 23-30 at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. The competition includes surfers of all ages and skill levels, along with BMX stunt shows, beach volleyball, skateboarding and flag football activities.
Atlantic Park Surf will host The VB Lineup on Aug. 27, featuring a panel discussion with author Jason Borte, East Coast Surfing Hall of Famer Wes Laine and other Virginia Beach surfing figures, along with live music, surf film screenings and book signings.
The Atlantic Park Surf Art Market will take place Aug. 29 at Atlantic Park Plaza and include more than 30 surf artists from across the region. The event is free and open to the public.
The Second Annual Chlorine Clash Invitational is scheduled for Sept. 1 at Atlantic Park Surf and will feature World Surf League qualifying series competitors competing in head-to-head turn and barrel wave formats.
Surf Park Summit will return to Virginia Beach from Sept. 1-3 at Atlantic Park Surf and the Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront. The conference brings together surf park developers, operators, investors and product partners. Featured speakers include Blake Hess, Nate Stevens and Aidan Kahn of Atlantic Park Surf.
Lisa Andersen’s Champ Camp will be held Sept. 3-4 at Atlantic Park Surf. The training camp will be hosted by four-time world surfing champion Lisa Andersen and Atlantic Park Surf Director of Coach Surfing Jason Borte. The program includes six surf sessions, skills assessments and question-and-answer sessions.
The Super Girl Festival is scheduled for Sept. 4-7 at First Street Jetty in Virginia Beach. Organizers said the event includes more than 8,000 female athletes competing in 14 sports, along with concerts, wellness classes, art exhibitions and surfing competitions.
The Rhythm & Ride Retreat with Donavon Frankenreiter will take place Sept. 7-8 at Atlantic Park Surf and The Sitio. The event combines surfing, food and music and concludes with a public concert.
