That Sydney wave pool air section that took center stage at Stab High and fueled thousands of social media clips around the world, is now available to the public. Sort of.
URBNSURF announced that customers wanting to try the new section at the facility’s 46 module Wavegarden Cove, can do so during private lagoon hires. The air wave is not available during the daily surf lagoon schedule.
“It’s the ultimate high-performance wave, delivering a fast, powerful ramp for riders chasing speed, precision, and the thrill of soaring aerial maneuvers,” says URBNSURF on their website. “Access to the Air Wave requires Full Private Lagoon hire and is only available at URBNSURF Sydney.”
The surf park adds that customers can expect 36 waves in the private air session hour. Waves run shoulder high with a ride time of 8-12 seconds.
Although Wavegarden has been able to produce airwaves for some time, a full remodel of their Basque Country R&D facility led to new settings that more surf parks have incorporated into special events, like, Stab High.

For the Stab High competition, surfers were judged on airs with a scale of 1-50. Only completed airs counted while turns, tubes and tailslides netted zero points.
Highlights from the event include Skai Suitt’s straight air to win the Ladybirds title and Joel Vaughan’s backflip, which gave him the win. Sierra Kerr notched her second consecutive women’s win while Loci Cullen claimed the top Bottle Rockets spot.
“The crowd wasn’t just watching, they were part of the energy,” said URBNSURF. “Music pulsed, cheers erupted, groms splashed about on pool floaties and every nail-biting finale felt like the final act of a blockbuster.”
