Bro, Does Your Wave Pool Even Have a Mascot? Meet Mio

Amusement parks love mascots, but what about wave pool mascots?. These larger-than-life characters do more than just pose for photos—they play a vital role in branding, marketing, and visitor engagement. A well-designed mascot helps create a memorable identity, kicks up emotional connections with guests, and opens up lucrative merchandising opportunities.

Each wave pool around the world brands its services according to its present market and the market they wish to attract. A good mascot reflects the brand’s vibe and essence. URBNSURF has Roary, a posiden-esque nod to annual storm systems. The Wave Bristol developed a frog mascot to appeal to kids via their Little Rippers program. The mascot at Wave Park South Korea is a sloth named Mio.

We’re not sure Mio would work during a Melbourne Boardriders Battle, but in the pop culture kingdom of South Korea? He’s perfect. Our contact Euna Kim in the Republic of Korea went for a surf and had a chat with this wave pool mascot.

Mio is the wave pool mascot at Wave Park in South Korea. He’s a sloth who helps visitors see the value in taking things slow.

What animal are you and what is your story?

I’m Mio, the slow-moving sloth, and I’ve got a surprising hobby – I love swimming! Back in the tropical rainforest, I couldn’t really swim freely because the rivers and valleys were home to some pretty scary creatures. So, I decided to leave the jungle behind in search of a more relaxing, water-filled life, and that’s how I ended up at Miocosta on Turtle Island! Now, I spend my days here on Miocosta, lying on a sunbed and watching the golden sunsets – it’s my favorite thing to do. And when I swim? I’m three times faster! You’ll have to come see for yourself!

What are your job duties at Wave Park?

At Wave Park, my role is to help everyone feel comfortable with the waves and the water. Whether you’re new to surfing or an experienced rider, I’m here to guide you into a relaxed and enjoyable experience. No rush, no stress – just a welcoming atmosphere full of positive energy. After Euna’s surf sessions, we love relaxing together under the sun. I even hold her surfboard while she unwinds – it’s the perfect end to an amazing day at the park

Favorite wave setting?

Oh, easy! My fave is the tiniest M1 waves. They’re like the perfect chill vibe – just enough to float and vibe with, but not too crazy. But what really gets me? The Bay.  It’s like my happy place, where I can just totally unwind, catch those little waves, and float around in peace. Honestly, it’s all about the slow life here, and the Bay’s got the ultimate zen vibes.

We’re smitten with Mio. If you’re interested in more about Wave Park, check out our video guide below.
