We’ve just dropped WavePoolMag Video Guide #16 on our YouTube channel. Our wave pool travel guides offer a clear, objective look at the ins-and-outs of the world’s surf parks. We’re not influencers trying to juice the algorithm with “Best Ever” and “Top 10” titles. We are journalists who go on site to get to know the owners, operators, employees and surfers at each location.
There are so many shades of Germany, from Bavaria to Berlin. In this retro-tinged video guide to Munich’s wave pool we explore travel options, wave settings, prices and ride-lengths along with a toungue-in-cheek take on the culture.
The reason this Endless Surf wave pool is here dates back to the city’s roots in surf culture. There are an estimated 420,000 active surfers in Germany, with 2.5 million Germans who say they have tried surfing. This surf park will undoubtedly boost those numbers.
o2 SURFTOWN MUC is a 34-caisson Endless Surf design that offers a Split Peak (or A-Frame) mode with simultaneous right and left waves, as well as a Point Break setting for longer rides that run the length of the entire pool.
Waves can be adjusted through Endless Surf’s proprietary software system, Swell Studio, to cater to all levels and operating modes, with ride lengths varying from up to 19 seconds in smaller pools, and reaching up to 33+ seconds in larger designs.
Endless Surf’s flexible wave production can also accommodate beginners and advanced surfers in the same section through the simultaneous use of the Peak and Shore zones. Due to the technology’s unique footprint, everyone on dry land is very close to all the action in the water—whether on the beach or along the backwall.

Getting There
This wave pool is out by the airport, so the area has a Euro industrial park vibe. The modern, flowing main building – which houses the café, restaurant, viewing platform, rental, and surf shops – is built out of wood, a welcome respite from the prefab concrete of the surrounding area.
In Munich, waves are offered in the following sessions: First Timer, Rookie, Progressive, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert. Prices at o2 SURFTOWN for the A-Frame setting are €89, while Point Break will set you back €139.
Surfing Level
While most wave pools have roughly four surf level categories, o2 SURFTOWN has six—the most we’ve seen at any one surf park. Along that six-layer surf journey from debutant to pro is an impressive infrastructure of coaches, equipment, tutorials, and more to help surfers advance. This might explain the serious vibe during many of these sessions, as surfers focus on advancing their technique in a limited timed session.
Access
o2 SURFTOWN MUC is an easily accessible wave pool. From the airport, it’s a €30 cab ride including tip. If you venture from central Munich, it’s a 40-minute drive by car or a direct 50-minute train ride.
In central Munich be sure to check out the Eisbach and adjacent river waves. During the 16 hours of summer daylight, try biking through the Marienplatz part of town to enjoy real Old World Europe.
