Fly-Thru render shows Sydney wave pool that’s set to open in 2024

Sydneysiders and the rest of the world will soon have access to URBNSURF Sydney which sits just 20 minutes of downtown. URBNSURF Sydney will be the first-ever wave generated park in New South Wales and the second public-facing wave pool in Australia.

The company said that once open it will provide waves for an estimated 1000+ people every day for surf sessions, and countless more to enjoy other amenities on site.

When?

“We’re pumped to open the park to everyone from Autumn 2024,” said CEO Damon Tudor. “Due to heavy rainfall that was unfortunately unavoidable during construction, we have experienced delays from when we first hoped to open it to the public… But it’s just like the saying goes, good things come to those who wait!”

URBNSURF Sydney, set on a 3.2 hectare site, will include a massive event space next to the lagoon, which can host 2000 people for live events including music, unique sporting events, and more. Other amenities include a Surf Academy, Cabanas for private use, a 20m leisure pool and an 8m kids pool, a playground, a surf-skate pad, retail store, a high-performance center, a multifunction room and a health and wellness studio.

“The park will have a variety of different food and beverage offerings onsite including an up-scale restaurant venue with a rooftop terrace,” said URBNSURF. “There will be a casual offering on the ground floor to ensure there’s something for everyone from surfers to spectators and foodies.”

The Sydney surf park follows closely to its Melbourne predecessor and incorporates all the proven features as well as some new additions.

URBNSURF Sydney will have a range of different surf settings to cater to all abilities. The different surf sessions on offer include Play in the Bays, Cruiser, Progressive Turns, Intermediate, Advanced, Advance Turns & Expert.

The company said they would soon be offering early access to Sydney Foundation Members and Membership packages as well as Gift Cards targeting the Summer 24 Christmas Gift market.

“We know from our Melbourne URBNSURF site, that there is a market and appetite for Australians to come and enjoy a surf session at our parks regardless of where it is,” added Damon. “Melbourne has countless interstate visitors who come through the gates every week, and many of whom are from New South Wales. We’re pumped to bring our experience and knowledge of running Australia’s first surf park and finally be able to bring perfect waves to Sydney’s West. Only 20 minutes from the CBD it really is going to be one of the best places to go for a surf in Sydney.”

The Lowdown: 14 kilometres west of Sydney’s downtown and one kilometre from the central train station, the park will use Wavegarden Cove technology. Of interest, it will be built with a north-south lagoon orientation to suit prevailing wind conditions. LED lagoon lighting means night and day surf options.
