Alaïa Bay partners with Surf Eye for its video capture system
Alaïa Bay’s wave pool in Sion, Switzerland has just added an AI Video system by Portuguese company Surf Eye. Starting from the upcoming 2025 season, every wave at Alaïa Bay will be automatically recorded, edited, and made available to customers. Surfers will be able to purchase high-resolution videos to relive, analyze, and share.
Automated video systems automatically detect and record every surfer’s waves in real-time. Systems by several companies populate wave pools today. Flowstate has systems set up at nine wave pools globally and now with the addition of Alaia Bay, Surf Eye has AI video at four wave pools. Surfline has taken its popular cam system and plans to deploy it at surf parks and Wavegarden has Check My Surf, a system which the company launched last year.
Wave pools like having the systems on site as it improves the customer experience as well as increases dwell time on site. Many facilities have reported an increase in F&B sales as a result of AI Video systems. Three Blue Ducks at the Melbourne URBNSURF has a dedicated section for customers to hang out and watch their sessions.
Surf Eye is a Portugal-based startup that tapped AI-powered video technology in 2022, with the launch of the first camera on the ocean beach of Costa da Caparica, near Lisbon. By early 2024, Surf Eye had expanded into the wave pool industry, quickly partnering with RiF010 in Rotterdam, Praia da Grama in Brazil and Skudin Surf at the American Dream Mall.
The company says they also have partnerships at rapid wave pools in Berlin, Vilnius, Munich and Milan.
“We’re really excited to welcome Alaïa Bay to the Surf Eye network,” said Alessandro Fracassi, Co-Founder and CEO of Surf Eye. “Video technology is key for modern wave pools—it helps surfers improve faster while making it easy to enjoy and share their sessions. At Alaïa Bay, we’re introducing our highest resolution cameras and redesigned user flows for a seamless user experience. We can’t wait for surfers to try it out!”
