Bahrain is set to establish the first surf park in the Middle East and North Africa, utilizing Wavegarden technology. The project, named Bahrain Surf Park, is being developed through a collaboration between Edamah, the Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company, and GFH Financial Group.

The wave pool project will be part of the larger Bilaj Al Jazayer development, which spans 1.3 million square meters along the southwest coast of Bahrain. This development has been recognized as Bahrain’s Best Leisure Development by the Arabian Property Awards and will also include luxury beachfront hotels, residential units, and commercial spaces.

Hisham Alrayes, CEO and Board Member of GFH Group, said that Bahrain Surf Park at Bilaj Al Jazayer aims to enhance Bahrain’s status as a tourism destination and offer a recreational facility for both residents and visitors. Alrayes expressed pride in being involved in this development.

According to data, most tourists visiting Bahrain come from China, India, Germany, the UK, and nearby Arab states to visit historical sites and famous shopping areas. The Bahrain International Circuit hosts Formula 1 events.

Bahrain Surf Park is projected to draw around 300,000 visitors annually, and provide an estimated 140,000 surf sessions each year. The facility will include food and beverage outlets, a terrace, a retail store, cabanas, event space, and a private entertainment area for corporate or school groups. Additionally, plans are in place to host a major international surfing competition at the park in 2026.
