EpicSurf advances the surf-meets-accessibility marker

EpicSurf collaborated with Aqua Creek to develop the world’s first standing wave access lift, a device which allows users of all backgrounds to use their surf system.

“For many, the dream of riding a wave has remained just that—a distant dream,” said Julie Klein at EpicSurf. “EpicSurf, renowned for its cutting-edge deep-water stationary surf wave technology, is at the forefront of making surfing accessible to a broader audience.”

EpicSurf collaborated with Aqua Creek to design this first-of-its-kind lift mechanism customized for standing waves. The innovative lift system will enable people with limited mobility to access the wave easily, comfortably, and safely. The design will allow users to enter the wave in a secure, supported position, significantly reducing the need to climb or fall.

This lift will be customizable to meet individual needs, providing a tailored experience that ensures both safety and enjoyment. The system will gently lower riders into the water and position them on the wave, allowing them to experience the thrill of surfing without barriers to access. After their ride, the lift will retrieve riders from the water, facilitating a seamless exit.

The company added that their ability to customize waves from 2 to 5 feet (approximately 0.6 to 1.5 meters) ensures that the thrill of surfing is available to people of all abilities.

“Since its launch, EpicSurf has proudly shaped waves for a diverse range of surfers, including novices, professionals, children, veterans, and adaptive surfers,” the company said in a statement. “EpicSurf’s accessibility features—such as rapid wave adjustability, variable pump flow, retractable training bars, and a drain-dry safety system—provide an inclusive experience for surfers of all abilities.”

EpicSurf was designated as the first and only standing wave accredited as a Certified Autism Resource by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).

Bruce Quay, COO of EpicSurf, said the development emphasizes the company’s long-standing commitment to accessibility and innovation.

“From the development of EpicSurf, our focus has been to ensure it is accessible to everyone, regardless of skill level, age group, or ability,” said Bruce. “With over 50 years of experience in product design, engineering, and innovation, we aim to provide the best entertainment value for patrons, deliver durable and reliable equipment for owners, and create safe and inclusive experiences for all.”
