Gold Coast wave pool gets development approval

Parkwood Village is set to be transformed into a world-class integrated golf and surf village after the mixed-use development received Development Approval today. The project, which will be anchored by the Gold Coast’s first surf park, the ‘Endless Surf Wave Lagoon’, will also include an upgraded 18-hole golf course, as well as residential, hotel, retail, entertainment and dining facilities.

Managing Director of Parkwood Village, Luke Altschwager said the vision was to take the best parts of surf culture, golf, leisure and entertainment from around the world and create the ultimate integrated resort.

“The proposed Surf HQ and Endless Surf Wave Pool, Childcare, Retail, food and beverage, commercial and medical tenancies will dovetail into the existing uses at Parkwood Village to become a readily walkable precinct,” Luke said.

He added that there is nothing more quintessentially Australian than surfing and, once completed and complemented by the upgraded golf course and Titans training facilities, he sees parkwood as the heart of sport on the Gold Coast.

It’s been a long haul to get here. Last year WavePoolMag had Luke Altschwager on the podcast. He detailed the transformation from golf to Gold Coast sports hub.

“A world-class surf break is a perfect fit for our active community, coupled with a multi-million dollar make-over to the 18-hole golf course and a beautiful family resort,” Luke said. “It will be like nothing before seen on the Gold Coast.”

With a proposed completion date of late 2026, Mr Altschwager said the road ahead will be a busy one.

“We are thrilled to have received DA and will immediately begin planning for construction. These things take time though, so we ask the community to be patient with us as we move through the construction process,” he said.

President of Endless Surf, Paul Chutter said the project is truly a world-class venue in the making.

“We at Endless Surf are honoured to be the anchor of this vibrant lifestyle hub that will quickly become a staple destination within the region. As one of our first signed contracts from when we launched Endless Surf three years ago, this project is a special one, and we are beyond thrilled to receive this approval,” said Paul.

The Club at Parkwood is already an established attraction on the Gold Coast offering a par 71 golf course, dining, sports bar, Topgolf Swing Suite bays as well as hosting weddings and Celebrations of Life (funerals). It’s also the official home of the Gold Coast Titans, a professional rugby league football club with a rabid following.

“Hitting this milestone means that Parkwood’s impressive dreams are coming to reality and that we are a huge step closer to bringing an unrivalled surf park experience to this global surf mecca. We know that Gold Coast surfers have big expectations, and we are ready to deliver pure perfection to Surfer’s Paradise.”

The Endless Surf lagoon at Parkwood Village will feature an ES48 that boasts 12s rides in Split Peak (lefts & rights) and up to 25s rides in Single Peak (left or right). Intentionally designed with world class surfing as well as efficiency in mind, the surf park technology offers near limitless wave customization and industry leading operating flexibility. All in all, Endless Surf at Parkwood Village will offer up surf for all skill levels, from newcomers to seasoned Gold Coast surfers alike.
