How much to surf Urbnsurf? Price changes reflect the cost of perfect waves

Note: Updates to Urbnsurf and all the world’s wave pools can be found on our 2022 pricing guide by clicking here.

It’s amazing the variety in wave pool projects that blip on our radar screen. From multi-million dollar homes fronting a central surf lagoon to low-cost, barebones waves peeling off adjacent to a dirt lot. The business models are varied, and there’s a reason for that.

In this new space, surf parks are trying to make the dream of sharing waves on the daily, profitable.

“The focus for a lot of surf parks is on the beautiful advanced wave, but that doesn’t always create the same experience for the early and mid-level surfer,” says Skip Taylor of Surf Park Management. “The reality is that public surf parks have to rely on beginner and intermediate surfers to make business models work. But you wouldn’t know this from looking at all the social media videos.”

As Australia heads into high-summer Urbnsurf announced a range of price changes to reflect the market demand, cater to clients and, of course, stay in the black.

Urbnsurf Melbourne has been open between rolling COVID spikes for one year now. In that time Brand Manager Rupert Partridge says they’ve learned a lot through feedback from members, guests and their heavy-user community.

“These learnings led to the development and introduction of our Cruiser and Expert sessions, new progressive lesson pathways, new amenities around the park and the restricting of our daily surf session schedule,” says Rupert. “Based on these learnings, our current business circumstances as we move into COVID-normal operations in 2021, and increased costs, we’ve made some minor changes to our sessions and lessons.”

The short of it is that some sessions have increased in price while membership and multipacks remain the same cost. Other offers now include kit rental. Details below.

Play In The Bay sessions for beginners now include complimentary softboard or bodyboard hire as standard, and are now priced at $20 for children and $30 for adults mid-week, and $25 for children and $35 for adults on weekends and public holidays.

Melbourne has simplified the pricing for Intermediate Sessions, which are now priced at $69 for children and $79 for adults.

Increasing the prices of Advanced Sessions on weekends and public holidays to $89, however mid-week Advanced Sessions will remain at $79.

Increasing the prices of our Learn To Surf and Beginner Lessons to $69 for children and $79 for adults mid-week, and $79 for children and $89 for adults on weekends and public holidays.

Rupert added, “However, in recognition of the support of our members and frequent frothers, we are not planning any changes to our memberships and multipacks – in format or in pricing.”

Multipacks are priced as follows:

  • 3x group surf lessons, priced at $185 for adults, and $160 for children (aged 6-12)
  • 10x intermediate surf sessions, priced at $620 for adults, and $530 for children (aged 6-12)
  • 10x advanced surf sessions, priced at $700 for adults and children (aged 6-12).
