Viral clips of Coco Ho and Laura Enever jumping into a larger-than-life inflatable Zorb ball at The Swatch Nines event in Waco reminded us that surfing is, above all else, simply fun. The images provide a great counter to the serious sporting of the WSL. Consequently, we wanted to explore the potential that wave pools have to redefine future surf comps.

For this episode of Friday Sessions, we spoke with Nico Zacek, a former professional skier who founded The Nines concept, Waco Surf partner Mike Schwaab and pro-surfer/skimboarder Blair Conklin. In the process we discover a fundamental shift in the definition of “surf event.”
