Munich wave pool hard training the next gen

From September 13th to 15th, twelve young German surfers, aged 12 to 18, traveled to Munich to take part in the Red Bull Under My Wiiings event, led by German surf pro Leon Glatzer. Some participants even came from as far as Costa Rica, the Caribbean, and Portugal, gathering for two days of non-stop surfing and personal development coaching.

The goal of Red Bull Under My Wiiings was to create a safe, supportive environment where these surfers could freely express their abilities, build confidence, and, most importantly, have fun. Despite less-than-ideal weather, the enthusiasm of the participants never wavered. With three surf sessions per day, they had the chance to ride waves like never before, thanks to O2 Surftown MUC Wavepool. Smiles were ever-present, and even a few tears of joy were shed as the young surfers fully embraced the experience.

For Leon Glatzer, this event was a personal passion project. Having experienced the highs and lows of a professional surfing career himself, Glatzer was deeply motivated to support the next generation. Beyond skill development, the event emphasized camaraderie, teamwork, and the joy of shared experiences. The unique setting of the Wavepool allowed trainers to provide real-time feedback, both in and out of the water, helping the surfers refine their techniques.

In collaboration with Martin Walz, workshops focused on mental resilience—a crucial skill for professional athletes—were also a key part of the program. By fostering mental strength alongside technical skills, the event aimed to equip these young surfers with the tools they’ll need for both competition and life.
