New Wave Pool Tech From Brazil Makes Bold Claims

A new wave pool technology announced this week plans to power the Ilhas de Atibaia project near Sao Paulo Brazil. In a press release, Infinity Wave Co. said they would be the official wave technology provider.
The technology, developed in collaboration with researchers at the Hydraulics Technological Center Foundation (FCTH) at the University of São Paulo (USP) (USP Research), includes a patented movable floor and a regenerative energy system designed to optimize power use.
The company says the bottom of the wave pool changes depth and slope through their Dynamic Reef, a variable-depth bottom that adjusts its slope and depth to influence wave formation. This system enables control over wave intensity, allowing for a range of conditions from small, rolling waves suitable for beginners to steep, barreling waves for advanced surfers.
“Our exclusive Dynamic Reef lets you adjust the intensity of wave breaking, controlling depth and strength to create unique, tailored experiences, from gentle waves for beginners to powerful, tubular waves for advanced surfers,” the company said in a statement.
If implemented, the system would be the first operational wave pool to feature a movable floor. A previous attempt in 2008, which introduced a similar concept in a Florida wave pool failed shortly after opening.
The pool’s wave generation system is designed to produce up to 1,200 waves per hour, including 600 high-performance waves reaching heights of up to 2.40 meters. The system allows for a continuous sequence of waves. Most pools in the market today have a lull between sets. Infinity Wave Co. said this will reduce wait times and accommodate various skill levels. The company added that surfers can expect up to 20 waves per hour depending on personal stamina.
Covering an area of 20,000 square meters, the pool has a maximum depth of 3 meters. Safety measures include an automatic monitoring and remote control system. The floor is constructed with a cement base and a textured polymer finish, enhancing grip for users.

Infinity Wave Co. said the surf park will operate from 6 a.m. to midnight, with potential for extended hours depending on demand and special events. The facility will be powered by an on-site mini substation supplemented by photovoltaic energy. Diesel generators will serve as a backup to ensure uninterrupted operations.
The design also features a central walkway, and resembles a Wavegarden Cove, but without the cylindrical wave machine at the pointy end of the diamond-shaped pool.
Brazilian surf pro Ian Gouveia has endorsed the wave pool at Ilhas de Atibaia
“Ian will play a key role in demonstrating the quality, consistency, and natural feel of our waves” said the copany. “His involvement not only validates the performance of our technology but also strengthens our brand’s credibility within the surfing community.”
Artificial wave pools have gained popularity in recent years, with facilities opening across Europe, North America, and Asia. The technology behind these pools continues to evolve, with companies focusing on energy efficiency, sustainability, wave quality and waves-per hour.
The press materials for Infinity Wave Co.’s system address developers’ most common asks for a technology including pool capacity, throughput, energy consumption and wave variety. Sound too good to be true? Maybe, but if it all goes ahead as planned, Infinity Wave Co.’s system could mark a significant development in the field.
