SurfAid cup finds 2024 home in Waco Texas

SurfAid has announced the inaugural SurfAid Cup at Waco Surf, set for March 16, 2024, aiming to raise funds for the organization’s impactful health initiatives. This event invites teams from across the nation to compete in a surf competition at the Waco Surf Lagoon, with registration and additional details available on the SurfAid website.

The competition is open to surfers of varying abilities, who will form teams of four. Judging will be conducted by an experienced panel. Participants traveling from afar are encouraged to extend their stay and enjoy the attractions of nearby cities such as Austin or Dallas.

Stuart Gasner, SurfAid USA Board President, emphasized the significance of the event: “By surfing in the SurfAid Cup Waco not only will you have an epic day of waves with your closest surf buddies, you’ll also directly be improving the health and livelihoods of people living in remote communities in Indonesia and Solomon Islands. Your one day of surfing will have a lasting impact.”

The fundraising target for the SurfAid Cup Waco is set at $100,000, which will contribute to health programs in isolated villages. Competitors will vie for awards in categories like top fundraiser and best wave, with a professional photographer capturing the day’s highlights.

SurfAid, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to improving the lives of women and children in remote areas linked through surfing. Since its inception by surfers in 2000, SurfAid has been working with communities in Indonesia and the Pacific to foster sustainable health changes.

The SurfAid Cup, which began in 2011 at Manly Beach, has grown into a global event, with previous competitions held in Australia and the USA. The addition of Waco Surf to the list of venues continues the tradition of surfing for a cause.
