Unique, multi-point AI camera system installed in Munich
The o2 SURFTOWN MUC facility had its grand opening this weekend with an estimated 10,000 people in attendance. Germany’s first surf park unveiled the first Endless Surf wave pool as well as another technological milestone, the first multi-angle automated AI video capture system from Flowstate.
The implementation of Flowstate’s AI technology now allows o2 SURFTOWN MUC to automatically record, analyze, and deliver personalized surfing videos to each guest. The system uses machine learning algorithms to identify surfers, track their movements, and capture key moments during their sessions.
Surfers can now have their waves filmed, edited, and delivered within minutes after their session. Additionally, surfers at the Point and A Frame will benefit from a multi-camera setup, featuring four cameras positioned around the pool to provide dual-angle shots of each left and right breaking wave.
“We’ve traveled to Germany a couple of times in the past year to start learning and engaging with the local community and better understand how we can take our technology and apply it to the local market,” said Flowstate’s CEO, Luke Wallace. “Having now had the opportunity to surf at o2 SURFTOWN MUC this past week, we now know that the assumptions and big bets we’ve made are coming true. We are beyond excited to partner with the o2 SURFTOWN MUC team to bring our platform to the local surfers of Munich, and the wider surfing community who will no doubt be flying in for this experience.”
The wave pool said they wanted to offer something truly exceptional for their visitors.
“O2 SURFTOWN MUC is dedicated to providing an exceptional experience for all our guests, and the introduction of the AI video capture system with Flowstate takes our offering to the next level,” said Chris Boehm-Tettelbach,CEO of o2 SURFTOWN MUC. “This innovative technology not only captures the excitement and joy of surfing but also helps our guests improve their skills through detailed performance insights.”
The Flowstate AI video platform at O2 SURFTOWN MUC offers automated recording of surf sessions, capturing each surfer’s ride to ensure comprehensive documentation of their experience. Surf videos and photos are compiled and made accessible to guests through an online platform, facilitating easy viewing and sharing.
Surfers at the A Frame and Point break will benefit from two camera angles for each wave, providing both front-on and behind-the-peak views. This feature distinguishes O2 SURFTOWN MUC as the only large-scale wave pool globally to offer multi-angle recording.
The platform also promotes community engagement, allowing users to create profiles, follow friends and other surfers, and interact with content through likes, comments, and shares within a local and global network.
A large LED screen at the facility will be utilized for live streaming and highlights of surfing sessions, along with sponsor messages and key announcements, enhancing the spectator experience.
Additionally, the Flowstate Replay mode enables surfers to watch recordings of their recent sessions while enjoying food and beverages in the bar and café area.
Surfers can receive instant performance analysis and feedback from the coaching team, utilizing the Flowstate video system to help improve their skills.
Privacy controls are also a key feature, allowing surfers to manage the visibility of their sessions. All recordings are initially set to private until the surfer opts to make them public, with options to adjust the privacy settings for individual sessions or their entire profile.
