Kanoa helps Wavegarden create new dedicated air section

Feeling the heat from shooting star wavemakers in Waco and Palm Springs, OG wave pool company Wavegarden announced a dedicated air section this week.

Through the talented surfing of Kanoa Igarashi and the software tweaking of Wavegarden founder Josema Odriozola, the two worked out a variety of air settings. The system looks like a submerged obstacle that creates different sections depending on the wave setting. The process involved Kanoa and Josema firing back comments between waves to get the desired effect.

“The air section technologies being developed now will be available in all future commercial facilities,” said Wavegarden. “However, the sections will be much longer, steeper and bigger.”

Igarashi, rated #6 at the close of 2019, now lives in Portugal, a 10-hour drive away from the Wavegarden test facility in the Basque Country of Spain. Expect to see more wave pool input from the zippy regular foot.
