AI video upgrade opens new safety potential for wave pools
Flowstate announced this week that their system now features Live Streaming directly from the Admin Control Centre, which enables wave pool operators to monitor every wave and surfer in real time.
“Whether for entertainment purposes or to maintain health and safety, our Live Streaming feature ensures you stay connected at all times,” said Luke Wallace, CEO of Flowstate.
The announcement signals a shift toward operater safety in what was previously considered a strictly commercial-facing endeavor.
“(You can) monitor the safety of your surfers with real-time visual feedback,” said Luke. “Live Streaming allows you to quickly identify and respond to any incidents, ensuring a safer environment for all.”
One of the many challenges wave pools face in the approval process is how to adhere to safety standards in a field where there are no established safety standards. Each surf park project must independently address concerns from local and state approval boards. Projects are often delayed when these committees have no working knowledge of the wave pool industry.
During the past few years there have been strides and gains made to establish baseline standards. The challenge lies in addressing concerns across different countries and municipalities.
Oftentimes standards are developed by committees made up of volunteers from within that represented industry. For surfers in wave pools, there is an ongoing project with ASTM International (formerly The American Society for Testing and Materials) Other good news is the strategic alliance between URBNSURF and StarGuard ELITE. The initiative merges SGE’s aquatic safety training and risk prevention services with URBNSURF’s experience in operations and best practices.
If you’d like to deep dive on the subject of safety standards, WavePoolMag hosted a round table discussion on the subject with Marshall Myrman of Flowrider, Shaun Hutchinson of URBNSURF and Wess Long, President at StarGuard ELITE
