Another vintage wave pool machine from the mysterious Fred Island

Our latest wave pool discovery from the YouTube vault features motorized mini barrels reeling out from somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere tropics. To make the waves, a strap is attached to the drive wheel of a pickup truck – much like Tom Lochtefeld’s early test systems – which powers the door to a resevoir. Water from the tank then spills out to create beautiful little peelers.
What struck us here is how clean the miniature right-hander is. It also resembles prototypes of some of the well-funded pneumatic systems on the market today. But this was 13 years ago!
The clip was made by underground wave-making legend Fred Island, the gent who woke the world to that hand-powered learner wave that stormed YouTube a few years back.
