Inspired, Mick Fanning backs Australia’s first surf and golf resort

Three-time world champion surfer Mick Fanning has announced the development of Palm Valley, Australia’s first surf and golf resort, located 7 kilometers from Main Beach at Parkwood International Golf Club. The project aims to integrate a surf park with a championship golf course and a luxury hospitality resort, reflecting the lifestyle of the Gold Coast.

Scheduled to open in mid-2027, Palm Valley will feature advanced Endless Surf wave technology, which has been tested and endorsed by Fanning. The surf lagoon will cater to all skill levels, from beginners to professionals, and is expected to enhance the surf park experience.

Luke Altschwager, Founder and Managing Director, stated that the fully-approved project represents a significant investment in tourism for southeast Queensland.

“We will create a unique new destination that integrates surf, golf and hospitality – minutes from the Gold Coast CBD,” said Luke. “This will position it as a major tourism attraction and the premier training venue for elite surfers.”

Luke added that as a high performance training resort, it will offer specialised programs designed for Australian athletes targeting Brisbane 2032, as well as accommodate top-tier international talent.

“The Surf Lagoon will become a premier venue for professional events – with the potential to host the 2033 Olympic Para surfing, and the surf competition proper, if weather dictates,” said Luke.

He added that the shovel-ready project was well-aligned with the Premier’s new goals for economic growth, job creation and eco tourism leadership. Both Council and State Government are urging new investment in tourism infrastructure that can broaden Queensland’s visitor appeal.

“With Mick on board, we’ll bring the passion, innovation and excellence that the Gold Coast has always been known for,” he added.

Mick Fanning said that with the project he aims to redefine surf parks and share the stoke that shaped his life.

“Surfing has given me everything,” said Mick. “Palm Valley is my way of giving back, creating an inclusive space that showcases the future of surf parks. There’s no better place than the Gold Coast to merge sport, lifestyle, and world-class hospitality for the entire family.”
