American Wave Machines surprised visitors at the RipCurl GromSearch National Final with a new wave setting. The GromBomb – a marketing tie-in to the surf company’s wetsuit – features a hollow end bowl section. The new setting became the playing field for a special contest.

“The PerfectSwell® Shootout showcased four of the world’s best youth barrel riders competing on a special wave,” said PerfectSwell. “The riders were judged using an overall performance judging system that rewarded creativity and style.”

At the end of the special heat, Tex Mitchell took the win.
