Surf Park Productions launches new event format at URBNSURF and beyond
Surf Park Productions, an advisory and event production company focused on the wave pool industry, has been established by Tyson Rose, the former commercial projects lead for URBNSURF group.
The company has initiated a series of events, including Surf & Turf at URBNSURF and the Shortees Par 3 Golf Course which have proved extremely popular. Rose’s company is now concentrating on organizing competitions at URBNSURF and other wave pools.
While wave parks provide consistent, schedulable waves suitable for various skill levels at any time, traditional surf judging methods with multiple surfers can lead to inefficiencies and increased costs.
To address these challenges, Surf Park Productions has formed an exclusive partnership with Launchpad6, a digital competition platform based in Australia, which was utilized by Surfing Australia for the 2024 Junior Online Surfing Championships. This partnership designates Surf Park Productions as the sole operator of a new video competition format called ClipComps.
The ClipComps format allows competitors to surf a Side-HopperTM session at wave pools like URBNSURF, dividing their time between left and right breaks. Using AI video platforms such as Flowstate, surfers can select their best wave videos for submission to judges certified by Surfing Australia, who have experience in wave pool competitions. The Launchpad6 platform streamlines the judging process, culminating in a Playback PresentationTM that showcases all videos and results.
Andrew Busuttil, CEO and Founder of Launchpad6, commented on the partnership, noting the alignment of visions between the two organizations.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Tyson and Surf Park Productions,” said Andrew. “Tyson’s passion and expertise for all things surfing were evident from our first meeting. His understanding of how to create an engaging and memorable competition experience aligns perfectly with Launchpad6’s vision and capabilities. The partnership between Launchpad6 and Surf Park Productions is providing something truly unique to the surfing industry and has the potential to elevate surf competitions, particularly at wave pools, to a new level.”
Tyson Rose stated that previous competitions at wave pools often resulted in wasted waves due to the need for scoring gaps, which was inefficient.
“Until now, comps at wave pools like URBNSURF required wasting waves to create gaps between scoring rides, which was inefficient and costly,” said Tyson. “The Playback PresentationTM has proven to be the highlight of the day, where participants can relax, have a couple of drinks, and watch the action.”
ClipComps has been implemented in several competitions at URBNSURF, including a pilot event for the Elouera Boardriders Club in July.
Surf Park Productions has appointed Steve “Harro” Harrison, owner of Global Surftag, to oversee operations and event production, and is expanding its panel of judges under head judges Jon Hayman and Kye Engel. The company is currently accepting bookings for events through 2024 and into 2025.
