(The Wave) pool is filled – first waves to roll out in October
If you coughed up the dough to The Wave project in Bristol during the past decade as part of their Crowdfunding campaign, well now it’s payoff time.
Today The Wave announced their lagoon is filled and ready to test. The team will fire off a few sets when October rolls around (which is next week.)
Nick Hounsfield posted on Instagram, “Massive week and next week is going to be even bigger.” (We thank him for not saying “massiver.”
The Wave in Bristol looks to be set to open its doors to a select few in the coming weeks. More importantly, they will be firing off waves. Actual surfing waves in what was an empty field just earlier this year.
“Our lake is full and the site is locked down as we start testing the waves,” the company said in a promotional emailer.
But the big questions remain, who gets to surf those first waves? Last week The Wave Bristol announced they wanted the public to put forth surfers with unique stories that qualified them as deserving to surf the first sets.
Along with this group, the wave is rewarding those who believed in the project all along, yes, the Crowdfunders.
“As we get closer to our warm-up phase and opening, we’re keen that we get all our Crowdfunders onto site before we are fully open,” said founder Nick Hounsfield. “The sessions will be free and run to help us get ready operationally. They will be on fixed dates in October and be available on a first-come-first-served basis. They will only be available to those Crowdfunders who’ve already booked their surf slots.”
