Unit Surf Pool to build 16meter wide wave in Baja

A 1200-acre development in Los Cabos, Baja California Mexico will break ground on its first phase of construction this month, October 2021. Included in this initial phase is the world’s largest Unit Surf Pool that will be open to the public in Fall 2022.

The new development, spearheaded by Sean Doyle, is named after the beloved native coastal shrub, Damiana. Known for producing a beautiful aromatic flower that for centuries has been made into a tea used for boosting mental and physical stamina. The development itself is sure to embody that sentiment and enhance the lives of those who visit and dwell within it.

Damiana will be a sustainably focused destination, between the Sea of Cortez, the rolling hills of the East Cape, and a natural arroyo. Boasting 360 degrees of landscape views, it will feature premiere Hospitality, Residential, Recreational, and Culinary offerings.

The heart of Damiana and first phase of development will begin on October 1, 2021 and feature a 16-acre man-made saltwater lake with a Unit Surf Pool as the main attraction. Along with 365 days a year of guaranteed surf and focused coaching and lessons, the facility will also have an expansive bar and restaurant, and watersports equipment rentals for aquatic adventure both on the lake and at sea.

“We are extremely pleased to have partnered with Unit Surf Pools for this project,” said Sean Doyle. “We have looked at many different opportunities to build waves in Cabo and this is by far the best solution for a fun, easy to ride wave that beginners and pros love, with advanced sustainable technology.”

Unit’s Tony Finn echoed that sentiment.

“We are beyond stoked to be working on this fabulous development in Cabo,” said Finn. “I have been surfing Cabo and the East Cape for decades and this sustainable Surf Park in a saltwater pool will be fun for everyone who comes to Cabo! Surfers and non-surfers alike will all have an incredible time here. We cannot wait to welcome you to a real Baja experience.”

Damiana will also begin construction of their Beach Club overlooking the magnificent and breathtaking Sea of Cortez. The Beach Club will host a culinary master famously known for his internationally renowned restaurants.

“We are honored to break ground on this spectacular development with such an impressive group of teams and partners” said Jessica O’Leary of Unit Surf Pool. “The synergy between these groups to create sustainable, adventurous, sensational, and connecting experiences is truly remarkable. This place is going to be very special.”
