Lakeside Surf in Washington dives into more wave pool competition

Lakeside Surf, aiming to establish itself as a global riversurf hub, has announced the addition of a new event to its annual calendar. The first-ever Battle of the Butte competition is scheduled for June 28 and 29 and is open to surfers of all levels. The event will feature male and female categories across four divisions, offering participants the opportunity to compete for a chance to join Team USA at the 2024 Continental Surf Cup.

Lakeside Surf Manager Jared Eygabroad stated that the event aims to promote riversurfing and provide a platform for surfers to engage in friendly competition.

“This event was created to generate some fun competition between surfers of all ages and skill levels, where anyone who riversurfs can come experience a heat-based riversurf competition, just like you’ve seen in the Continental Surf Cup,” said Lakeside Surf Manager Jared Eygabroad. “Our main goal is to promote the sport of riversurfing, while also offering an exciting competition for surfers and spectators alike.”

The competition will span two days, with a Friday night session for Best Trick and Super Groms (ages 10-13), and Saturday heats for Groms (ages 14-17), Prime (ages 18-44), Masters (ages 45+), and Open divisions.

The Battle of the Butte seeks to offer surfers a chance to showcase their skills, enjoy the thrill of competition, and immerse themselves in the riversurfing community. Registration for each division is priced at $50 and includes a warm-up session, competitive heat, and event t-shirt. Additionally, surfers can opt to participate in the Best Trick competition for an additional $30.

Spectators can look forward to witnessing exciting surfing action, scenic views, and food and beverage offerings at Lakeside Surf.
