Richmond Surf begins construction on huge development
“Under Construction” reads the landing page of The Lake website, a Richmond Virginia development that will host a sizeable wave pool. Axios Richmond reported that the project adjacent to the River City Sportsplex in Chesterfield is moving ahead despite delays.
The news outlet stated that construction for the development’s first commercial phase began earlier this year, with housing to become move-in available before 2024 is done.
Wave Pool
“The 6-acre surf pool and the rest of the project will come online over the next five to 10 years, depending on demand,” Axios reported.
In 2020, the developers Lake Adventures said they would use the world’s largest PerfectSwell system. This reportage was before Boa Vista opened the world’s largest PerfectSwell wave tank in Sao Paulo. The current Lake Adventures website does not list a surf technology provider.
Similar to OceanKamp and DSRTSurf, both in California, The Lake project will create an entire mixed-use development around the Richmond Surf wave pool. The 105-acre plan includes more than 700 apartments, office space, a hotel, retail space, and entertainment venues.
Housing
“Our community will boast luxury apartments and townhomes,” said The Lake. “Residents and homeowners will have access to all the community’s features and amenities, including unsurpassed walkability to The LAKE’s dining, entertainment, and sports venues.”
The Richmond surf development will also include modern office spaces, that when complete, will boast over 100,000 square feet of Class A office space.
This project started in 2016 with some completion dates set as early as 2022. The revised completion date for the surf pool has yet to be listed.
