São Paulo Surf Club Marks JHSF’s Latest Investment in Artificial Waves. What does it cost to surf it?

Beneath the shadow of the Octavio Frias de Oliveira Bridge, known as Ponte Estaiada, is the newly minted São Paulo Surf Club. The bridge spans the Pinheiros River and features a 138-meter (453-foot) “X”-shaped tower supporting two curved roadways and is the only cable-stayed bridge with this design. Ponte Estaiada is iconic – much in the same way as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. And now, both famous structures have surf spots in their shadows.
Wave Pool Testing and Technology
To evaluate the opening of the new wave pool, developers JHSF invited professional surfers to test the São Paulo Surf Club. The test focused on analyzing the performance of the PerfectSwell wave technology, developed by American Wave Machines. Since JHSF holds exclusive rights to the technology in Brazil, this test represents the next step in assessing its functionality before the official opening.
The surf pool measures 220 meters in length and is capable of generating artificial waves lasting up to 22 seconds. Furthermore, the system is already in operation at JHSF’s Boa Vista Village in the São Paulo countryside. As the first surf club in the city, the São Paulo Surf Club is a significant addition to the area. Additionally, it is part of the Real Park development along the Pinheiros River. According to JHSF, the club’s design prioritizes quality of life and community engagement.
JHSF CEO Highlights Expansion
“This is a historic moment for São Paulo: the first artificial wave in the city,” said Augusto Martins, CEO of JHSF. “The pride is even greater knowing that this milestone happened at the São Paulo Surf Club, an exclusive location that brings JHSF’s signature quality and excellence to the heart of one of the world’s largest metropolises.”

What Will It Cost to Surf the New Brazilian Wave Pool?
The São Paulo Surf Club offers access to its newly developed wave pool, along with additional amenities for members. Membership costs approximately R$950,000 (about $190,000 USD) for a family membership, which includes access for a primary member, spouse, and up to three dependents under 35. An annual maintenance fee of R$25,000 (around $5,000 USD) is also required.
Beyond surfing, members can use the Surf Clubhouse, which includes a lounge, restaurant, bar, and outdoor relaxation areas with pools and shaded seating. The clubhouse overlooks the artificial beach, wave pool, and São Paulo skyline. Additional leisure and sports activities are available for members.
For visitors, hotel accommodations near the São Paulo Surf Club start at $55 USD per night, making it possible to stay nearby and experience the city’s first artificial wave pool. Membership applications undergo a comprehensive review process before approval.

Surfers Test New McFly Wave
During the testing phase, Olympic gold medalist and 2025 World Surfing League (WSL) ranking leader Ítalo Ferreira joined the session. Additionally, WSL competitor Miguel Pupo and WavePoolMag employee of the Month Rob Kelly participated in the event. The surfers had the opportunity to test the “McFly wave,” a new wave type featuring a barrel section followed by an aerial maneuver.
“I was eager to see how the project was coming along,” said Ferreira. “Being one of the first surfers to test this technology here at the club, especially in the heart of São Paulo, was an unforgettable experience. Seeing wave pools grow in popularity and making surfing more accessible to people makes me really happy. I tested it, and it’s more than approved! Now, I can’t wait for the official opening.”

São Paulo Surf Club Membership and Future Plans
Looking ahead, the São Paulo Surf Club is expected to be fully operational in the second half of the year. Before the grand opening, members of the development will be invited to participate in final testing. Once operational, the club will offer sports facilities and other amenities designed to enhance the member experience.
