The Palm Springs Surf Club is waking up, slowly, privately

As the new year dawned the Palm Springs Surf Club opened to the paying public on January first 2024. Shortly thereafter they closed the doors until an April launch that lasted only a short time. For at least the past four months, Southern California’s only viable wave pool has been busy fixing whatever the problem was – we may never know since surf parks rarely share this information.

But this week via social media the pool announced that they are booking private sessions for the month of September until the wave machine is operating at 100% of expectations.

“We’re gradually bringing the waves back online and offering private sessions in September,” the company announced. “We know the public (session) is what you really want, and we’re working hard to get there – please bear with us as we work to get it right.”

What is a Private Session?

Currently surfers can book 2-3 hour blocks. From the PSSC website under the Surf category interested parties can fill in a questionnaire and a customer care representative will return with more information. The questions include, number of surfers in your group, time of day and date prefered as well as the skill level of the surfers in your group. Perks at the moment include cabana use for half and full-day private session bookings.

While no prices were listed for the sessions, one source told WavePoolMag they were getting a private group session together and here’s how it works:

“10 to 12 surfers can get a private two-hour session for $6000,00 or a three hour session for 10 to 12 surfers for $7,500.00,” said the source. “I know it sounds kind of pricey but if you compare it to the Kelly Slater wave pool, it’s a smoking deal.”

Waves on offer at the moment are the A-frames, slabs, tubes and Waikiki waves in both lefts and rights. The surfer limit is 10 on the peak, but groups of up to 20 can partake and swap out during the session.

During the wave pool closure the Palm Springs Surf Club has remained open as a club with access to the main restaurant, slides, lazy river and cabanas throughout the summer.
